Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026
In short
- Fair Price tells you whether a price is fair. To answer, it sends the photo you take, your location rounded to about 1 km and the name of the place you're at to our server and to Google's Gemini AI.
- We don't store your photos on our servers. Your past checks and their photos stay on your phone, in History, until you delete them.
- You don't need an account: checks use a random ID, not your name. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional.
- What we keep on our servers about checks is anonymous: the kind of item, an area of about 5 km and the price range (90 days), and what travelers say they paid (180 days).
- We don't sell your data and there are no ads in the app. When you subscribe on iPhone, we tell Meta about the purchase so we can measure our ads on Facebook and Instagram (see Ad measurement).
- You can clear History and delete your account in the app, and ask us to delete anything else at support@bettelf.com.
Who we are
Fair Price is run by Maciej Bajko (“Fair Price”, “we”, “us”), an independent developer based in the United Arab Emirates, who is responsible for your personal data (the data controller). This policy covers the Fair Price apps for iPhone and Android and the website fairprice.tech. Contact us at support@bettelf.com.
What we collect and why
Photos you check
- When you take a photo to check a price, the app shrinks it (to at most 1024 pixels on the long side) and sends it over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Google's Gemini AI to recognize the item, read any price shown and estimate what locals usually pay. The copy that's sent carries no location or other camera metadata.
- Our server doesn't save the photo. It's used for that one answer and then discarded. Google processes it for us as our service provider under its Gemini API terms, and may keep requests for a limited time to detect abuse and meet legal obligations. We don't use your photos to train AI.
- Only the photo you take is sent. The live camera view stays on your phone, and the app doesn't read your photo library.
- The AI is instructed to ignore people in a photo and never to describe or identify anyone. We don't use face recognition.
- A smaller copy (720 pixels) is saved with the answer in History, on your phone only. We don't upload it, although your phone's own backups may include it.
Your location
- With your permission, the app uses your phone's location while you use it. Prices depend on where you are, so it looks up your country and currency, your city, and the shop, stall, restaurant or sight you're at (within about 60 m).
- Your exact position stays on your phone. With a check, the app sends your coordinates rounded to about 1 km, your country and currency and, if it found one, the name and type of the place you're at (for example “Grand Bazaar, store”). A place's name can show roughly where you were; we use it only for that answer and don't store it.
- On our server, a check is stored with an area of about 5 km, never your coordinates.
- To find places, the iPhone app uses Apple Maps. The Android app uses Google Play services and Google Maps and, where it can't use Google's place search, OpenStreetMap, which receives a position rounded to about 110 m (or 1 km when searching a wider area). These services receive the location they need for each search under their own privacy policies.
- The app keeps your last location, rounded to about 100 m, on your phone for up to 3 days so the map opens quickly.
- Without location access, Fair Price uses the country from your phone's region settings.
Ride fares and sight prices
- Ride fares: you pick a destination and, if you like, a pickup point. Your phone measures the drive, with Apple Maps on iPhone or Google's routing service on Android (which receives the start and end points). Our server receives the place names, the distance, the drive time and the type of vehicle, along with the rounded location sent with every check.
- Official sight prices: when you open a sight, the app sends its name, its website address (from the map), the town, and your country, currency and language. Our server reads the sight's own website with Gemini to find its ticket prices. Answers are cached for everyone for 30 days and aren't linked to who asked.
- Navigate opens Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or Citymapper with the destination. Those apps' own privacy policies apply.
Your account
- No sign-up is needed. On first launch, the app creates an anonymous account with a random ID (Firebase Authentication). Our server uses it to count your free checks and to look up a subscription.
- If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, that account is linked to your sign-in. We then keep your email address (with Sign in with Apple this can be a private relay address), whether it's verified, how you signed in, your name if Apple or Google shares it, and when you signed in. This lets you use the same account on another phone or after reinstalling.
- With Google, the app shows your Google profile photo, loaded from Google. We don't store it.
Free checks and limits
For each account, our server keeps how many checks and official-price lookups you've used today, and when you last made one, to apply the daily limits and prevent abuse.
“What did you pay?”
If you report what you paid after a check, we store the amount with that check's generic item name in English (for example “mango lassi”), its category, the country, the area of about 5 km, the currency and the date. We don't store your account ID or the photo with it. Once at least five travelers have reported a price for the same item nearby, their reports are blended into everyone's price ranges.
Voice
- “Say the price” uses the microphone and speech recognition only while you're saying a price, for a few seconds after you tap. On iPhone, Apple's speech recognition runs on the device where supported and otherwise on Apple's servers. On Android, the phone's speech service runs on the device where available. We never receive the audio; the app just picks the number out of the words.
- Spoken answers and “Say it for me” use your phone's built-in voice, on the device.
Purchases
- Fair Price Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your payment details.
- RevenueCat manages subscriptions for us. It receives your random account ID, your purchase and subscription records and, if you're signed in, your email address and name (so we can help you with your plan). On iPhone it also receives your device's vendor identifier (IDFV), your IP address and an Apple Ads attribution token, which shows whether you came from an ad in the App Store. Our server asks RevenueCat whether you have an active plan.
Saving a share card
When you choose Save Image, the app adds the price card to your photo library. It doesn't read your library.
App security checks
Firebase App Check (with Apple App Attest on iPhone and Google Play Integrity on Android) confirms that requests to our server come from the genuine Fair Price app, so others can't use or abuse it.
Technical logs
Our hosting provider records server requests and errors, including IP addresses, and we keep these logs for 30 days to keep Fair Price secure and fix problems. We don't log photos.
Currency rates
Exchange rates come from ExchangeRate-API. Our server fetches the whole rate table, so no information about you is sent there.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal data or show ads in the app.
- We don't use your photos to train AI, and we don't use face recognition.
- We don't ask for permission to track you on iPhone, so we never receive your advertising identifier (IDFA).
Ad measurement
We advertise Fair Price on Facebook and Instagram. To learn which ads lead to subscriptions, the iPhone app uses Bridge, an ad-measurement service we run ourselves on Cloudflare.
- The ad click: if you tap one of our ads, Bridge's link records the click (which ad it was, Meta's click identifier, your IP address and your browser's details) before sending you to the App Store.
- First launch: the app sends Bridge a random install ID (kept in your iPhone's keychain, so it survives reinstalling the app), the vendor identifier (IDFV), your device model, iOS version, screen size, time zone, language and region settings, the app version and your random account ID. Bridge also sees your IP address. It compares these details with recent ad clicks to estimate which ad, if any, led to the install.
- Sign-in and purchases: if you sign in, the app sends Bridge your email address, which Bridge turns into an irreversible code (a hash) on arrival and doesn't keep in readable form. The app also tells Bridge when you buy a plan.
- What Meta receives: when you start or renew a subscription, Bridge reports it to Meta through Meta's Conversions API: the event and its value, the ad click identifiers, a hashed version of your account ID and, where available, a hashed version of your email address and of your approximate area based on your IP address (country, region, city and postal code), and your IP address and your device's browser details. Meta uses this to match the purchase to an ad and to measure and improve our ads, under its own privacy policy.
- How long: Bridge deletes the device details of ad clicks after 90 days and raw IP addresses after 30 days.
- This never includes your photos, your checks or anything from Meta AI glasses. You can object at any time (see Your rights). The Android app doesn't use Bridge.
Meta AI glasses
On iPhone, Fair Price can work with Meta AI glasses: press the capture button twice (or say “Hey Meta, start Fair Price”) and the glasses take the photo and the answer is spoken back to you. Photos from the glasses are handled like any other check photo. What passes through Meta, what Fair Price receives from your glasses and what we do with it is explained in our Privacy Policy for Meta AI glasses.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
- Contract: to provide Fair Price to you: price checks and answers, rides and sights, History, your account, purchases and the daily limits.
- Legitimate interests: keeping Fair Price secure and preventing abuse (App Check, limits, logs), improving price ranges for everyone with anonymous check records, and measuring our advertising. You can object to any of these.
- Consent: access to the camera, location, microphone and speech recognition, and saving to your photo library, which you give in your phone's settings and can withdraw at any time. Reporting what you paid is up to you.
- Legal obligations: for example keeping records of purchases where the law requires it.
Service providers and where your data is processed
These companies process data for us, only to provide their service, under their data processing terms.
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud and Firebase | Our server, database, accounts, App Check and logs | Server and database in Belgium (europe-west1); accounts (Firebase Authentication) in the United States |

| RevenueCat | Subscriptions | United States |
| Cloudflare | Hosting Bridge, our ad-measurement service (iPhone) | Worldwide network; database in the United States |
Others receive data for their own purposes, under their own privacy policies: Apple (App Store, Sign in with Apple, Apple Maps, speech recognition), Google (Google Play, Google sign-in, Google Maps and places on Android), Meta (ad measurement, and Meta AI glasses if you use them) and, on Android, the public OpenStreetMap servers, which are run in several countries.
Because we're based in the United Arab Emirates and our providers process data in the United States and elsewhere, your data may be handled outside your country. For people in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, transfers rely on adequacy decisions, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK and Swiss addenda).

Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Apps can't reach our database directly: only our server functions read and write it, and only the genuine app can call them. Photos aren't stored on our servers. Access to our systems is limited to us. If you find a security vulnerability, please report it to support@bettelf.com with “Security” in the subject. We'll look into it promptly.
Your rights and how to delete your data
- In the app: delete a check from History, or clear all of History. Delete your account in Settings › Account › Delete Account: this deletes your account, your profile and your usage counters and, on iPhone, also revokes Fair Price's access to your Apple or Google sign-in.
- On your phone: turn camera, location, microphone and speech recognition access on or off at any time in your phone's settings.
- By email: ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct, delete or restrict it, to transfer it, or object to how we use it, at support@bettelf.com. We reply within one month. A deletion request also covers what RevenueCat and Bridge hold about you. Check records and price reports carry no account ID, so we can't single out yours.
- Ad measurement: to object, write to us. We'll delete your Bridge records and stop reporting your purchases to Meta.
- Complaints: if you're in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
- California: you have the right to know, correct and delete your personal information. We don't sell it. Reporting purchases to Meta for ad measurement may count as “sharing” under California law; you can opt out by writing to us.
Children
Fair Price isn't meant for children under 13, or under 16 where the law requires a parent's consent. We don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. For significant changes we'll also tell you in the app.
